Many MSPs started out as resellers and they will remember what happened when cloud came along. As customers overcame their hesitation, more and more moved their workloads to the cloud and stopped buying servers, storage, and other related equipment.
It looked like a disaster. Very quickly the bulk of an MSPs revenue was gone. Sales plummeted. Many alcoholic beverages were consumed. Many.
What to Do Next?
MSPs began to sit down with their teams and talk about what the company could do to replace those lost hardware sales. Fortunately, many chose to manage the new cloud services their customers were using and became MSPs.
Others talked about transitioning to become application developers but found the training curve to be long and the expense high. The return looked tremendous, but perhaps too far down the road for the company to survive.
